As part of an annual tradition, members of the Avon Lions Club and friends spent the Saturday morning before Thanksgiving sorting food and packing baskets for 17 local families in need. Food for the baskets was donated by a variety of individuals and organizations.
The baskets were actually cardboard boxes, and each family received two boxes full of food. Items included a frozen turkey, potatoes, canned vegetables, soups, and a variety of other sundry items. Enough for a Thanksgiving feast and much more.
Also involved in the project were volunteers from the Avon Womens Club and the LEO club from Avon High School. The baskets were hand delivered by off-duty officers from the Avon Police Department.
