On December 14th, the Avon Lions will be visiting the Ohio Veterans Home in Sandusky. With the help of our own Santa John, we will deliver cookies and personalized cards to the nearly 700 vets who live there. Please plan to meet at 9 am at the American Legion on Walker Road to load the van. Many of our Lions involved last year said this was the best event they had ever experienced. The vets were extremely touched someone would take the time to visit them personally, and not just mail the cards.
Before this can happen, we need card donations and help from anyone who can write out cards to the vets. Nate’s sister, a teacher, has committed to writing 370 cards with her students. This can be an excellent family project for the holidays.
Jim Harley will be at the American Legion Post 211 every Friday night this month promoting the program and soliciting donations. You can drop off written cards or card donations there or at his house. Jim can be reached at (440) 381-9843.
