On April 20th, the Avon Lions are taking part in a field trip with the Murray Ridge Center to the Cleveland Aquarium at 12:30. The Center is part of the Lorain County Development Disabilities program that helps people with special needs by helping them acquire a vocation or receive an education. The Center will provide transportation for their people and we will meet them at the aquarium to help chaperone and interact with them to make sure they have a great time.
We would like to 8-10 Lions to participate. We will carpool downtown to arrive at 12:30pm, and the visit should be wrapped up by 3pm. This will allow you to be home by 4pm in plenty of time to keep your Saturday night commitments.
We also need financial assistance. The regular rate for the Aquarium is $22 for an adult, but the aquarium has graciously reduced the rate to $9, with one Murray Ridge aide free for every five admissions. Jen at Murray Ridge has lined up around 40 clients and 7 aides, so roughly 40 at $9=$360. The other cost we would like to include is a basic lunch at the aquarium for the Murray Ridge folks. This will bring the total cost of the field trip to about $600. To raise this money we will visit local companies to solicit donations with the goal of funding this project without utilizing regular Lions funds. Any individual or company you may be associated with that would like to sponsor a Murray Ridge person, please consider getting a donation made to help make this project a reality. Remember, each field trip person you sponsor will cost $14 each. You or your company can sponsor as many people as you like.
Tickets for the Lions that wish to participate are also priced at $9, a great way to help out and see the aquarium at a reasonable price. So mark your calendars for April 20th, a ways away, but an event not to be missed. We need a final headcount and all monies in by March 29th.
