Cruising with Murray Ridge
On Saturday, July 12th, the Avon Lions will once again sponsor the Murray Ridge Center on a field trip. Last year the trip was to the Cleveland Aquarium, and it was a wonderful, rewarding time for everyone involved. This year, the kids and adults of the Center were asked to dream up a new destination, and they responded by inquiring about the possibility of a river cruise-tour of Cleveland. Well the Avon Lions are pleased to announce we can make this dream come true with a cruise on the Nautica Queen!
The sailing we have selected is the 11:00am to 1:00pm lunch cruise on July 12th. The cost per individual is $25 (the non-profit rate), which includes the tour and a hot lunch. We expect to have approximately 40 Murray Ridge participants attending, so we need to raise $1000 to meet this goal.
Any individual or company who would like to sponsor a Murray Ridge participant can make a check out to the Avon Lions Club, and mail it to Jim Harley: 181 Duff Drive, Avon Lake, Ohio 44012. Remember, each person you sponsor will cost $25, and you or your company can sponsor as many people as you like.
The Center will provide transportation for their participants and we will meet them at the ship. There will be an opportunity for Lions to carpool – exact time and location to be announced. We would like to have at least 6 to 8 Lions accompany this cruise to assist with the kids and just be goodwill ambassadors. Lions are welcome to bring their families to enjoy the trip and interact with the folks from Murray Ridge. It should be a fun time and great adventure! Avon Lions and family members are expected to pay their own cost of admission.
The Murray Ridge Center is part of the Lorain County Developmental Disabilities program that helps people with special needs acquire a vocation or receive an education. Their goal is to assist participants and their families with the tools and training needed to help them live a fuller, more rewarding life.
