Father’s Day weekend brought the 10th annual Avon Heritage Duck Tape Festival to town. The major festivities kicked off Saturday morning with the Duct Tape Parade, featuring 15 to 20 floats dedicated to this year’s theme of “Decades of Duct Tape.” Members of the Avon Lions club marched in the parade and Paul Johnson drove his 1965 Ford Mustang to represent the club.
A big thank you to the Haemmerle, Santoro & Trifiletti families, John Chantler, Jim Harley, John Kaczmarek, and Pete Reifschneider for walking and handing out candy. Dave Mooibroek showed up as well to get some photos of the club in action.
Special thanks to Mike Trifiletti for wearing the Lions costume. He let some of the kids try out the mask as they were waiting for the parade to start. Can you say “future Lions in training?” The Lion mascot was a big hit during the parade.
Another highlight was when the Mustang bought the farm and had to be pushed the last 300 yards of the parade. One of the spectators yelled out, “Nice Hybrid!” Consequently, the Lions represented well as an active organization that is also environmentally conscious.
