The Avon Lions Club held its annual Fishing Derby on Saturday, August 7, 2021 at Northgate Park. The event was a smashing success – 205 children participated and caught 163 fish and 2 turtles! The event could not have happened without all of the wonderful volunteers and the very generous sponsors, including Cabela’s which donated a lot of fishing gear and set up tent at the event. Dozens of prizes were awarded in several categories, including the biggest fish caught – a 17” catfish! No one left without something – door prizes were handed out as well as grab bags. The Mayor of Avon and Stomper even made an appearance! Fun was had by all, and we’re so glad that the kids enjoyed themselves on this beautiful day.
