The Annual Avon Lions Club Clambake took place on Friday, October 11, 2013, at Tom’s Country Place, with about 260 in attendance. Festivities began with a social hour and time to say hello to neighbors and friends.

There were plenty of opportunities to purchase raffle tickets and sideboards.   Avon Lions members and many local businesses donated over 50 gift baskets, two pairs of designer sunglasses, rounds of golf at local courses, a bicycle and much more.

Of course the traditional Clambake/Steak dinner was served with all the trimmings, peppered throughout with drawings for the many prizes.  Great food, music, conversation and dozens of excited winners made for a fun, eventful evening for all.  The biggest winner was charity, as the Avon Lions raised $5500 to support their work in the community.

The Lions mission is to voluntarily serve our community in a variety of ways.  We help the less fortunate with sight and hearing issues, as well as other basic necessities.  We invest in the youth of our community from fishing derbies to leadership programs, and scholarships for graduating seniors.  We serve and financially support important projects on an annual basis that make Avon and its surrounding communities a better place to reside.

A special thanks to all the sponsors for their donations, and to Avon Lion Todd Haemmerle for managing the overall event.
